Welcome to Bandingilo National Park, a hidden treasure in South Sudan’s Equatoria region. The 10,000 km2 proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site is nestled in a wooded area near the White Nile River and features expansive marshlands teeming with life.
A Refuge for Rare and Endangered Species
Bandingilo National Park is a sanctuary for several critically endangered species, including:
- Nubian Giraffe: Observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
- Northeast African Cheetah: Spot the fastest land animals in action.
- Northern Lion: Experience the power and majesty of the king of the jungle.
The park is also home to African wild dogs, caracals, and spotted hyenas.
Birdwatcher's Haven
With an estimated 400 bird species, Bandingilo is designated as an Important Bird Area. Birdwatchers will enjoy watching eagles, vultures, storks, African Openbill, ducks, hornbills, African Fish eagles, weavers, pigeons, kingfishers, herons, stork, Bee-eaters, Guineafowl, Black Kites, doves, geese, owls, sunbirds, parrots, woodpeckers, qual, cuckoos, ibis.
Witness the Grand Migration
From January to June, Bandingilo hosts an awe-inspiring gathering of wildlife as hundreds of thousands of White-eared Kobs, Mongalla Gazelles, Tiang, and Bohor reedbucks converge during the wet season for breeding.
These animals move north and east towards Boma National Park, the Sudd, and into Gambella National Park in Ethiopia; a phenomenon certified as the second-largest annual migration of land mammals.
The migration pattern reverses from November to January, offering unique safari spectacles throughout the year.
