Boma National Park

Nestled in eastern South Sudan near the Ethiopian border lies the stunning Boma National Park, a sprawling sanctuary covering 22,800 km2. This protected national park is a treasure trove of diverse ecosystems and incredible wildlife.

Diverse Landscapes and Rich Biodiversity

Boma National Park is a mosaic of natural beauty:

  • Southern Park: Home to vast short grasslands and acacia bush, perfect for spotting grazing wildlife.
  • Eastern Park: Breathtaking lush woodlands.
  • Western Park: Open grasslands teeming with life.
  • Wetlands and Swamps: Abundant with permanent waterholes, attracting a variety of species year-round.

A Haven for Wildlife Enthusiasts

Boma National Park is a crucial refuge for some of Africa’s most iconic and endangered species. Keep an eye out for:

  • Big Game: Northern lions, buffaloes, elephants, African leopards, and Nubian giraffes.
  • Rare and Exotic Animals: Oryx, Lelwel hartebeests, Northeast African cheetahs, common eland, maneless zebras, waterbucks, Grant’s gazelles, lesser kudu, bongo, giant elands, and Nile lechwes.
  • Birdwatching Paradise: Spot majestic Ruppell’s vultures and the elusive black-chested snake eagles soaring above.

Witness the Spectacle of Migration

Experience the awe-inspiring second-largest annual migration of land mammals in the world.

From January to June, and again from November to January, hundreds of thousands of Bohor reedbucks, tiang, white-eared kobs, and Mongalla gazelles traverse between Boma, Bandingilo National Park, and Gambella National Park in Ethiopia.

It’s a sight you’ll never forget.

Village Tour

After an awe-inspiring wildlife safari at Boman, your adventure continues with an enriching Village Tour of the Jie Community and its vibrant Cattle Camp. Here, you will experience the culture of the Jie and witness how they take care of cattle – their prized possession.

You can also enjoy a wrestling watch party, where talented locals engage in traditional wrestling matches. The spectacle is an exhilarating display of physical prowess and deep-rooted tradition that brings the community together. Feel the excitement and cheer alongside the locals while at it.
